Presentation of the Initial Plan for the Energy Transition in Megalopolis to the Regional Governor of Peloponnese
On Monday, October 14th, 2019, the initial plan for the Energy Transition of the Municipality of Megalopolis was presented and delivered by the President, Mr. Dimitris Kafantaris, and the General Manager, Mr. Ioannis Georgizas, to the Regional Governor, Mr. Panagiotis Nikas. The plan, which was implemented by SUSTAINABLE CITY in collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens and the Regional Development Institute, forms the basis for the public consultation that will be held in the local community.
The consultation will result in the finalisation of the actions that will be proposed and funded in order to mitigate the impact of the transition to the post-lignite era in Megalopolis. This project was implemented within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation between SUSTAINABLE CITY and the Municipality of Megalopolis. It is worth noting that the Memorandum of Cooperation was unanimously approved by the City Council of Megalopolis in 2018.
The kick-off meeting of the Horizon 2020 research project entitled “WaysTUP! - Value chains for disruptive transformation of urban biowaste into biobased products in the city context” was successfully completed with the participation of Sustainable City Network executives. The meeting took place on the 2nd and 3rd of October 2019 in Valencia, Spain.
The project relates to the circular economy model and its main objective is to contribute research for converting urban bio-waste into innovative high value products such as food and feed ingredients, bio-plastics, bio-ethanol, bio-carbons, bio-solvents, proteins and oils.
SUSTAINABLE CITY participates in the European Project "PROSPECT - Peer Powered Cities and Regions", which focuses on learning and familiarising local authorities about the financing and implementation of energy saving and RES projects.
In the context of the project, executives of the Sustainable City Network travelled to Turin of Italy to attend a two-day training programme on the Innovative Energy Efficiency Conventions (SAR), which has been successfully implemented in Italy at Bruino City School. This building has been certified as a zero-energy consumption building (nZEB).
