With smiles, creativity and great citizen participation, the Living Streets project, funded by the Green Fund, was completed, proving that our cities can become more humane, more sustainable and full of vitality!
SUSTAINABLE CITY and its member municipalities celebrated the completion of the 2nd cycle of Living Streets with an online Closing Ceremony full of intense descriptions, experiences and positive messages. The ceremony was opened by the General Manager of SUSTAINABLE CITY, Mr. Ioannis Georgizas, thanking the participating Municipalities (Aigialia, Kavala and Karpenisi), who fully responded to the project specifications and the instructions of the Network's team and made their vision a reality. The Living Streets project, funded by the Green Fund, is slowly coming to an end. The participating municipalities, having successfully completed their action plans, will share their experiences in a final online meeting.
The Living Streets Closing Event will take place online on Tuesday 1 April 2025, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm, and will bring together those who organised and participated in the actions to offer residents of their areas a different view of their streets, with those who are likely to implement the project in the future. The POWERYOUTH programme is an opportunity for young people who are interested in clean energy and want to acquire practical skills in an international business environment. Through an interactive learning experience, participants will have the opportunity to meet other young people with a shared vision, work with experts in the field and explore how energy communities work in practice. Participation is free of charge and supported by the European Union.
The programme includes an introductory preparation, where the basic principles of clean energy and how the programme works will be presented. This will be followed by an online introduction to the trainers and other participants, where objectives will be set and views exchanged. One of the most exciting parts of the programme is a site visit to an active energy community, where participants will have the opportunity to see applied solutions such as photovoltaic panels, electric vehicle chargers and smart grids, and talk to local stakeholders. In the framework of the Erasmus Plus "Behind the Scenes" programme, SUSTAINABLE CITY, in cooperation with the Athens Development Agency, implemented an education and training programme dedicated to the cultural and creative sector. The action is promoted by the Development Company "GAL Terre Locridee" of Locri, in the Italian region of Calabria, and coordinated in Greece by Myth euromed.
The action involved 21 students and two teachers, representatives of the Classical High School "Oliveti-Panetta" and the Scientific High School "Zaleuco" of Locri (Reggio Calabria). The students were very interested as they had the opportunity to discover first-hand contemporary examples of heritage promotion and sustainable practices in a large city like Athens. SUSTAINABLE CITY, as a member of the European Smart Communities Network, invites you to the hybrid event "Greek Cities in the New Digital Era", which will take place on Friday 07 March 2025 at the Seraphio sports and culture complex of the municipality of Athens.
The support of European cities taking the first steps towards their digital transformation is part of the European Commission's initiative "Increasing the awareness and readiness of European communities for digitalisation", which is supported by SUSTAINABLE CITY through the Smart Communities Network. SUSTAINABLE CITY participated in the 5th Regional Conference of the Panhellenic Federation of Hoteliers that took place on Tuesday 18 February 2025 at the Lafazanis Winery in Nemea, in cooperation with the Corinthian Hoteliers Association.
The topics of the discussions were the interaction of the hotel sector with the Greek economy, the green transition in tourism, the co-design of the tourism product of the Peloponnese and its adaptation to the new challenges that are developing in the hospitality sector. |
