The 4th General Assembly of the Cities Network “SUSTAINABLE CITY” was held on December 2nd, 2020 via video conference. The Network’s President, Mr. Dimitris Kafantaris, was the head of the conference, while the majority of the Mayors of the Network’s Municipalities-Members participated. The Deputy Minister of Interior, Mr. Theodoros Livanios marked the beginning of the online event by greeting the audience. Mr. Livanios expressed his support for the Network’s actions and made a reference on the Ministry’s activities which are beneficial to the Municipalities.
The Network’s General Director, Mr. Ioannis Georgizas, presented the Network's activities so far, as evidenced by its participation in important European Projects and its budget development. Afterwards, the participants congratulated the Network’s executives for their achievements. SUSTAINABLE CITY signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Messinian Chamber, in order to better exploit European Programmes and provide the required technical assistance and support for studies and projects.
This cooperation aims to the development of sustainable investment plans and the proper perception of entrepreneurship in terms of the environment and corporate governance. Also, intents to accomplish the transition tο a more sustainable economy through several synergies and acts, which will be extremely beneficial to the citizens and the society in general. More than 100 participants expressed interest and attended the 1st National Webinar hosted by SUSTAINABLE CITY for the European City Facility (EUCF), on Thursday, May 21, 2020. The Webinar was directed at Municipalities and local authorities in order to inform them about the financing opportunities arising from the European City Facility (EUCF) and the application process.
The EUCF will provide a grant, up to 60.000€, to Municipalities and local authorities, in order to finance services and activities that will lead to the development of sustainable investment concepts, related to smart energy management, energy efficiency of buildings and reduced carbon footprint. We are pleased to announce the approval of the funding of the proposal entitled "Energy monitoring and calculation of carbon footprint of buildings and facilities in Municipalities", submitted by SUSTAINABLE CITY in the Financial Programme "Natural Environment and Innovative Actions 2019" of the Green Fund.
The proposal includes the development and installation, in selected Municipalities of SUSTAINABLE CITY, of a digital GIS platform, which will observe the carbon footprint and energy consumption of buildings and facilities, being an innovative tool for monitoring the infrastructure of Municipalities. SUSTAINABLE CITY was selected by EUCF as the Responsible Network for the Energy Transition in Greece9/3/2020
The application made by SUSTAINABLE CITY to EUROPEAN CITY FACILITY (EUCF), which is set up under the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation of the European Union, was approved. The purpose of this initiative is to help European cities and Μunicipalities, through financial and technical support, overcome the barriers they face in implementing ambitious energy transition plans, develop relevant investment concepts, focus on energy efficiency and switch to Renewable Energy Sources.
