Approval of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan of the Municipality of Chalki Island2/3/2023
We are glad to announce that the City Council of the Municipality of Chalki Island approved the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP), which was submitted to the European Covenant of Mayors.
The Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy is the main European initiative that brings together thousands of local governments that voluntarily commit to increase energy efficiency and the use of Renewable Energy Sources in their areas. SUSTAINABLE CITY Network, in collaboration with DATAGRID and with the support of the Decision Support Systems Laboratory of School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of National Technical University of Athens, undertook the development of this Action Plan. The SECAP of the Municipality of Chalki Island outlines the City’s general strategy and its long-term vision for 2030, which is in line with the relevant European decarbonisation targets. The record of the final energy consumption within the city’s borders and the calculation of carbon dioxide emissions for each activity sector for the reference year 2012 are included in the SECAP. These are followed by an assessment of the potential risks from the impacts of climate change and extreme weather events. Finally, measures and actions to mitigate emissions until 2030 and actions for adaptation to climate change are proposed. The implementation of the SECAP will be the cornerstone for reducing the city’s carbon footprint and for the municipality’s environmental strategic planning. The implementation of this plan is in alignment with SUSTAINABLE CITY's activities and combines the main objectives of the Network. It will also promote local strategies for carbon footprint reduction and renewable energy. Comments are closed.
