With smiles, creativity and great citizen participation, the Living Streets project, funded by the Green Fund, was completed, proving that our cities can become more humane, more sustainable and full of vitality!
SUSTAINABLE CITY and its member municipalities celebrated the completion of the 2nd cycle of Living Streets with an online Closing Ceremony full of intense descriptions, experiences and positive messages. The ceremony was opened by the General Manager of SUSTAINABLE CITY, Mr. Ioannis Georgizas, thanking the participating Municipalities (Aigialia, Kavala and Karpenisi), who fully responded to the project specifications and the instructions of the Network's team and made their vision a reality. During the event, each Municipality shared, through pictures and presentations, their experiences in transforming their streets into free circulation areas for citizens. This action changed the daily life of the residents, even if only temporarily, offering a new, more human approach to urban space. Actions ranged from creative workshops and outdoor activities to interactive events that reinforced the participation of the local community.
All speakers stressed the positive impact of the project on local communities, noting that the response of citizens was impressive. They also spoke about the high participation of families and children in their actions and the strengthening of social cohesion through the events, while they expressed the great desire of citizens and stakeholders to repeat the actions. The Living Streets project has proven once again that our cities can become more friendly, humane and sustainable when their inhabitants have the opportunity to get involved in the planning and organisation of actions, to embrace its vision and enjoy them.
