Capacity Building Training Programme for Young Energy Ambassadors for the Poweryouth project3/6/2025
In the framework of the European project POWERYOUTH, funded by the LIFE programme, SUSTAINABLE CITY successfully implemented the Young Energy Ambassadors Capacity Building Training Programme, aiming to strengthen the participation of young people in energy communities in Greece.
Eight young people aged 18-30 participated in an intensive two-day training combining theoretical training with practical experience. Through the exchange of good practices, theoretical knowledge, practical exercises and field visits to places of interest, the training aimed to equip young people with the necessary skills to launch their own energy initiative and to actively participate in the energy transition of their regions. More specifically, site visits were carried out: • At the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES):Participants had the opportunity to see how photovoltaic panels work individually and their application in a network, as well as to be informed about the latest developments in the sector. • At Serafio of the Municipality of Athens: the group visited Serafio, where they toured the photovoltaic installations, as well as the open-air shelter that has an electric vehicle charger, gaining practical knowledge about the operation and benefits of such systems. During the training, participants attended talks by trainers from the energy sector and energy communities. The trainers presented the basic principles of energy communities, their legal and financial aspects, how to start their own Community Energy Initiatives, as well as examples of successful applications in Greece and abroad. This two-day training is an important step towards the mobilization of youth in the field of sustainable energy, providing the necessary knowledge for their active participation in energy initiatives and the promotion of the green transition in Greece and throughout Europe.
